Microneedling is an increasingly popular way for Charlotte, NC residents to rejuvenate and refresh their skin. IT does this by encouraging new collagen production in the area being treated. Collagen plays an important role in keeping skin looking young, in fact, it’s what gives skin its firmness. As people age, however, their face starts to produce less collagen, which is what leads to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and even sagging or hollow skin.
To counteract these concerns, many people turn to microneedling. We’ll cover how it works and what you can expect after your treatment.
Microneedling basics
At Dermatology Specialists of Charlotte, we utilize Rejuvapen during our microneedling treatment. This pen makes microscopic perforations in the skin. The depth of the needle that makes these perforations can be adjusted based on the area being treated.
Once the pen is run over the area in concern, your skin’s natural repair mechanism kicks in. It causes your skin to start producing more collagen, making skin appear firmer. This helps fine lines and wrinkles disappear and improves the overall condition of your skin.
What to expect after
Once you’ve had microneedling, you will likely be excited to see the results. However, it is important to realize that while you may see some difference shortly afterward, it does take time to see full results. Microneedling requires the skin to produce collagen and heal itself, this takes time. You can expect your skin to continue to improve in the weeks or months after treatment.
Immediately after your treatment, your skin may look like a mild sunburn and even peel slightly. Some patients may even experience some bruising, though this is less common. Your dermatologist will be able to advise you on what to expect in the two to seven days it can take for skin to heal from the procedure.
