One of the reasons that PRP treatment is so popular is because it is a noninvasive procedure. That means you don’t really have to do much to prepare, no fasting or medications beforehand are required. But, there are a few things you can do to help ensure your treatment goes as smoothly as possible.

Prior to your PRP treatment, you should be sure to drink plenty of water. We recommend drinking 100 mL of water prior to arriving for your treatment. You should also avoid fatty foods 24 hours before your treatment. This helps ensure we are able to draw the blood we need without any problems.

Your PRP treatment will be relatively quick, lasting about 30 to 45 minutes in total. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Blood is drawn from your arm.
  2. This blood is placed into a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of your blood.
  3. Using a microneedling pen, the platelets are put onto the area that is being treated.

PRP treatments are relatively painless. However, we do apply a numbing cream prior to beginning treatment to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout.

Once you finish your PRP treatment, you can return to your normal activities, there is no downtime required for most people. Some patients experience some redness in the treatment area, but this typically fades within a day or two with most people healing within 24 hours.

It is important to maintain your skin and PRP regimen to achieve and maintain the best results possible. Your doctor may recommend additional treatments to get your initial results, followed by PRP treatments every three to six months following to maintain them. Your dermatologist can also discuss proper skincare after treatment, such as sun protection as well as lotions and creams to keep your skin in good condition.
