  1. Trying new products every few weeks. When we don’t see results from our acne treatment program right away, it can be tempting to switch to a new one. But, acne treatments take time to work. A good rule of thumb is to try a treatment for six to eight weeks before deciding if it working for you or not. You probably will never get good results if you keep trying new products every one to two weeks.
  2. Sleeping in your makeup. It’s a common saying, to never go to sleep with your makeup on. Yet, many people do. This can actually cause acne and irritate your face. Instead, make sure you remove your makeup each night. If you’re too tired to do anything else before you hit the hay, take off your makeup.
  3. Sharing makeup. Sharing makeup with friends is a fun way to try out new products. But, it can also irritate your face. Though acne is not contagious, sharing makeup and makeup brushes can transfer bacteria, oil, and even dead skin cells from them to you, leading to clogged pores and more breakouts. Instead, make sure you are the only one using your makeup and be sure to clean your brushes regularly.
  4. Wash your face a lot. If you struggle with acne, washing your face multiple times a day may seem like a good idea, it’ll keep your pores clean right? Wrong. This can actually irritate your skin, leading to more breakouts. Instead, only wash your face twice a day, in the morning and at night.
  5. Pop that pimple. No matter how tempting, don’t pop that pimple. This can actually increase inflammation and may even cause acne scars. Instead, treat your acne with medication or wait for it to run its course.
